Assembly Housing Workshop March 2026

On Friday 27th March, the Assembly met for a workshop focused on exchanging questions and experiences relating to their homes, the availability of appropriate housing and related support around the Bay.

Three particular areas discussed with attendees:

Experiences of Home – Experiences of challenges faced in the home as residents aged, whether or not current support was sufficient, and ideal support for remaining in their own homes for as long as possible

Future wants and needs – What barriers may hinder moving to more suitable homes in later life? What would make a home feel “right”? What does “local” mean to you in Torbay? Do you want to stay in a specific neighbourhood, or are more flexible to go even beyond Torbay?

Advice for decision-makers and guidance – What should be the top priority be when improving housing options available for older residents? And what support or information would help them feel more confident when it comes to important decisions concerning housing?

Torbay Council shared a presentation on their Strategy for Housing in Later Life, which can be viewed here: https://torbaycitizensassembly.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/housing-in-later-life-strategy-march-2026-slides.pdf
