Summer activities with Live Longer Better – 2023

Join us for our Diet, Nutrition and Hydration Summer sessions,

To kick things off, there will be a fun quiz on the topic of food and drink, followed by an explanation of how to read food labels, what they mean, and how diet can affect our moods and wellbeing, with tips on how we can try to maintain a healthy diet.

This will be followed by a fun activity where everyone will measure out what they think a portion or recommended portion is, of different food and drinks, such as units of alcohol and what a bowl of cereal really is.

Later, after a break (with refreshments!) a session about hydration and getting liquids into you, especially while it’s hot – fruit, ice pools, jelly, ice cream, and why is it so important to stay hydrated and the risks of not.  Not just about boring pints of lukewarm water – yuck!

Turning Heads CIC will be joining us to rustle up a selection of tasty meals (veggie style) using different ingredients such as Bulger Wheat, Couscous and Chickpeas – for people to try and also take recipe cards and ingredients home to make again.

Upton Vale Baptist Church Torquay Thursday 6th of July 10.15am until 1.15pm.

Paignton Baptist Church on Winner Street Tuesday 25th of July 10.15am till 1.15pm.

Brixham Baptist Church 21st of August Monday 10.30am until 1.30pm.

Gentle Exercise Classes – Exercise classes for most abilities.

Come and enjoy an exercise session, which is adaptable for use in the comfort of your home without the need of equipment. It can be part of your healthy routine.

In the session, you will exercise most of the muscles in the body and you can sit, stand for all or some of the exercises.

You will receive a free Fitness Therapy band to use for some of the stretches and you can take it to use at home.

These classes will take place with Elisabeth Bennetts and Jess Slade and are limited to 20 participants per session.  Join us on 25th of July 2-4pm at Upton Vale Baptist Church, 7th of August at Brixham Baptist Church 11-1pm and 31st of August Paignton Baptist Church 2-4pm.

Greens Bowling taster sessions

Join Jess Slade for an opportunity for a game or two with coaching, tips and experienced players to help along the way, with light refreshments included and a chance to speak with members about their clubs and social activities. Please wear flat shoes to participate, each session is for 10 participants so please ensure you reserve your space to avoid disappointment.  

Paignton – Paignton Bowling Club, Queen’s Park Rd, Paignton TQ4 6AH on Friday 4th of August from 11-1pm, Friday 18th of August from 2-4pm and Thursday 31st of August 11-1pm.

Brixham – Brixham Bowling Club, Nelson Road, Furzeham Green, TQ5 8BH on Monday 31st of July and Monday 14th of August both running from 11-1pm. 

Live Longer Better Beach and Sea sessions with Healthscape

Join Jess Slade at a beach hut on various locations below for seawater-related activities and a social beach experience. Healthscape will be providing fully qualified Swim leaders to run these sessions, so come along and try it. Please bring along your swimwear, sea shoes, a towel, water or drink, sun cream and anything you might want with you.

Introduction to the Sea

Sessions 5 people maximum at each session, this will involve paddling and movement in the sea, where you can stand and build up your confidence to be in the water – no swimming in sea experience necessary.

Broadsands Beach– 24th of July 10.30am until 1pm                                          

Preston Beach – 15th of August 10.30am until 1pm                                   

Goodrington Beach – 5th of September 1.30-4.30pm

Sea Dips

10 people maximum for each of these, sessions will be for those slightly more confident to swim, capable but wanting support, and confidence building to swim in the sea.

Preston Beach – 19th of July 10.30am until 1pm                                         

Goodrington Beach – 22nd of August 1.30pm until 4pm                              

Broadsands Beach – August 30th 1.30-4.30pm

Introduction to Snorkelling

And Finally, if you prefer to see the view under the surface there is Snorkelling for beginners sessions which will be held at Broadsands on Wednesday the 2nd and 23rd of August – times will be dependent on tides and weather. Please contact for further details.

These sessions are mainly aimed at over 50’s, however, all ages are welcome to join in.
